Sorry for that rubbish pun title. But I've had the chop! It was inspired by the mini shoot I did last week, for which I fashioned a faux bang for the first time in ages. My hair had reached that stage where the bottom three inches were basically dead. I permed it two years ago nearly to the day and the split ends were just getting worse and worse. I also had a completely frazzled front part from when I bleached it for my 30th birthday, the best part of a year ago. It didn't look too bad though, at a casual glance. Allow me to now show off these pictures!
These fabulous black denim capris are by Bernie Dexter, though a word of warning. I got these in the blue in a size small and they are absolutely perfect for me, but there is much less stretch in the black colourway. As a result, they are under much more... um... strain, shall we say. If I replace these in the future, I'll go up a size. But they are so fab and so flattering... they work wonders on your bottom, ladies. Mine is pretty ample, too.
But what about the hair? Clearly a fringe suits me... I even had a real one for a year or so when I was about 24.
Well, I'm being a bit of a cliche, but I decided to make some changes in my life, to go forward with a little bit of transformation, so it was time for a drastic haircut. And here it is, straight from the hairdressers (and no proper pics yet, only phonecam!).
It's not quite a Bettie Page - it tapers down slightly at the sides instead of up. I haven't played much with vintage styling yet and I am definitely still adjusting, and am not 100% sure... I hope it'll grow on me!! Grow! LOL etc ;). Touch of 'fremorse', you might say.
Anyway, let me know what you think. Unless you think it's horrible, then don't let me know at all. ;) One thing's for sure, I can certainly make it look totally unvintage - rather extremely East LDN trendy!
Oh, and HAPPY EASTER! Hope you're all overindulging in chocolate, as is traditional.
Fleur xx

I love the second last picture it's very Paris left bank (so I hope you don't vote right haha) well you can wear all hair I think;)
ReplyDeleteThe fringe really suits you, sometimes it's nice to have a change. Oh and I love the east LDN hipster styling ;)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! You are so lovely no matter the hair style, but this really suits you.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is horrible! I think it is really nice. It's just the growing-out stage that puts me off getting a fringe cut again.
ReplyDeleteDon't worrie, you're beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteoh I really love it! I think it's youthful and fun. It's always scary getting a hair cut but it does feel good when it's over with. I really love the fringe. Happy Easter! x
ReplyDeleteI love your new hair! *^v^* In fact, I'm so jealous that your fringe is straight, mine wiggles all around so unfortunately no such hairdo for me...
ReplyDeleteReally pretty, I like it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! As per usual. I've been dying to get Bettie bangs! It's such a tricky look though I'm afraid it wouldn't be done quite right. I guess I won't know til I go for it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the be-fringed brigade! It looks great, especially in the second pic.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Brings out a whole new face.
ReplyDeleteReally lovely! Can't wait to see how you style it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the fringe! It looks wonderful on you!

It looks just a little bit 50's-ish to me!
ReplyDeleteLike it! I like those jeans too, rather sheckshy and figure hugging which is all good as far as I'm concerned!
ReplyDeleteReally suits you. I especially like the pic with hair up and fringe ahoy. Pretty!
ReplyDeleteAh I love the bangs! I've had short and thick fringe for about the last 10 years styled in the bettie cut for about 5 of those. Recently I've been playing around with them to accomodate other vintage styles and they are quite fun!! Using one of two pin curls you can sweep them to the side and have them lay more flat for an Audrey Hepburn type look (this is also nice when they need a trim as they do not have to be so precisely cut). Also, when they are on the longer side you can use a few standing pin curls for a Marilyn Monroe type look. Oh I'm rambling but really who doesn't love to talk about bangs!?! Anyway... love the blog, always inspiring, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteIts adorable!!! It has a young fresh look about it.
ReplyDeleteI think this change is a great thing-you look really great-it does suit you. Now the question is-will you make more changes and try some 1950s looks? Sounds like an exciting move to make! Happy for you!!! Happy Easter! xox

It is definitely going to change the decade of your look from the 40s to say the 50s and 60s. This I think will be so much fun. And, as you say you can also make it very hip and modern. So it really is much for flexible! Your makeup also pops better with it ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the bangs on you :)
ReplyDeleteI think the fringe looks fantastic!

Gorgeous, they really suit you! I spent a few years with short, straight bangs like yours, and they looked rubbish on me until I curled them under, then - bam, perfect 50s bangs without a rat (now I've grown them out and am too scared to use a hair rat for faux bangs, lest it pop out in the presence of good company for some reason and I die on the spot). But they look wonderful on you even without styling! Oh the hipster topknot, hahaha.
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely! And as a dinged lady myself - I am keen to see how you style it!
ReplyDeleteI love it, I think it really suits you.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that fringe, and am very jealous that I can't have similar myself. It looks soooo cute!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! A change is so amazing!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I'm a little biased because it looks just like my own haircut, but I lovelovelove your new hair to pieces! Bangs really suit you!
ReplyDeleteLove the new fringe!
ReplyDeleteI've had a half fringe (from a side parting) for a while but last week I went for a full one. Mine goes up at the ends a la Bettie though. This could be the year of the fringe! LOL! Looks like you now have a similar length too....I told my hairdresser to trim mine, then asked for a curve and she lopped off more than I expected. Holds a curl better now I suppose! :oD
very beatnik, I like it.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks really chic. I'd totally have my fringe cut back in if my young man didn't hate fringes! Go with it and enjoy the change; hair grows back soon enough!
ReplyDeleteYep! It does suit you! Why am I not surprised? ;-)
ReplyDeleteyeah it looks good.... if you want it more bettie paige look curl under the bangs a bit more... and do more of a stand up pincurl than a regualr flat curl that way the curls wont make your hair short. but i like the cut very cute!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE it! Especially as you have fantastic eyebrows.
ReplyDeleteI thing you look great with the fringe! :)
ReplyDeletei LOVE IT! i just got my hair cut and at first it was like woa! what did i do! but it really grew on me in the past couple days (its mon and i got it cut on friday) and i love it and think its so cute! yours too have fun

That outfit is so amazing. You look gorgeous and those are lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou do really suit a fringe! And haircuts are most excellent for revistalising your body image.
ReplyDelete(Thanks for the tip about the capris by the way - my measurements are about the same as yours so I'll make sure to get a medium should I ever stump up for a pair!).
Hi Fleur, I have read your blog off and on for a few months now and just have to say, the fringe looks lovely. It really suits you <3
ReplyDeleteFaye
The fringe looks smashing on you! Fleur, you could shave yourself bald, and you would still look gorgeous....
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteYou look pretty with and less, don´t worry.
ReplyDeleteCute, I just had Bettie bangs cut yesterday! I especially love the rolled bangs on you (top pic).

ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteit is very true i agree with you .
DeleteAbsolutely love it! Really suites you.xx
ReplyDeleteHmm...now I have a bit of a problem with change.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, you pull off that fringe really well! :) I do love that second to last picture so much. You just look so feminine and beautiful! (Of course, you always seem to!)
Thank you for sharing with us! :) (Okay, I'll cut down on the exclamation points and pop off to bed!)
...Starting now.
The new do looks fab! Loving the hipster look, heehee!
ReplyDeleteI love those capris. I'd really like a blue pair. I have a large waist compared to my hips, not a very vintage figure! I don't know if they'd stretch enough without feeling like I'm being cut in half lol!
LOVE IT!! Of course, I have bangs too but I think they look great. I love the length of your hair too.
ReplyDeleteI slightly curl my bangs under, and usually clip a flower or something pretty on one side to look more..."vintagy.."
I also sometimes twist some hair back and clip.
I love your outfit & the ner har cut :)
ReplyDeleteI did exactly the same thing 4 months ago-back to my blunt fringe and I'd missed it so! I think you look gorgeous, fresh and new with it like this-plus even younger than you already do.
ReplyDeleteoh, and those pants are FIERCE-looking the biz lady!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous- very cool indeed. And versatile. I took one of the photos to my hairdresser yesterday as an example of the sort of thing I might like (for my first haircut in 2 years!!!!) So you are already trendsetting. Louise
ReplyDeleteI agree that a fringe definitely takes your look from the 40s into the 50s or even early 60s, but I don't think that's a bad thing! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove the hairstyle you weared!!! Pretty!!
ReplyDeleteIf you are a chic fans, you can also go on a journey in here: ray ban sunglasses
I love it! But then I do love a fringe. I certainly love mine! I have a little tip for when you fancy a small change: I know it's not your preferred era, but my fringe is about the same length as yours and I can brush it sideways for an Audrey Hepburn sort-of look, which I do a lot when it's tied back (otherwise I look more like that witch from the Moomins than a trendy East London type!)
ReplyDeleteyou are absolutely lovely!

Yes, I also do like your pants, it is bababoom! I love how it gives shape to your back side. Your hairstyle also do look unique, so cute, and like from 70's or 80's.
