The result you've all been waiting for...

Following the discovery of the scissors in the Christmas wrapping paper bag (DUH, I hear you all cry, but I thought I had had them since, honest!), I have finally done the draw! Who is the lucky lady (or chap)... ?

The names go in (so many it felt like the inside of a paper shredder)! Please excuse the grubby inside of my bag - it needs a clean!

I delve inside... and rustle around...

A name is picked... but who could it be?

It's Vane!

I went to tell her she had won, and from her blog it seems this could be just the pick-me-up she needs. Congrats lady! Please do get in touch with all your details and your prize will be in the post soon. :)

Commiserations to the other entrants, but I am pleased to say I'll have another giveaway to do fairly soon. I'd say for when I reach 1,000 followers, but best I let you all forget how long it took me to get this one drawn! Now all count your lucky stars that it's not me posting it, because you'd have another interminable wait... Miss Matilda is still waiting for her Christmas present, because I just can not manage to get to the dratted Post Office. Sorry lovely. :(

Hope you're all having fabulous weeks.

The 'Real Me' and an apology...

It seems the fates are against me doing this draw in a timely fashion. First, I spent the greatest part of today literally ransacking my own home to try and find my blasted paper driving license, before finally unearthing it in the very first place I looked - the filing cabinet where it should have been. Well done me. Then I went on a wild goose chase to try and find a working photobooth in my vicinity. I failed. Finally, when I got back, I could not find my scissors anywhere at all. I have written out the 400+ entries ready to be cut and drawn... but it will be at least one more day. Until I find the scissors. Or buy more.

So as not to make this a totally pointless post, I have a photo to share. I was tagged today by the lovely Cat over at The Vintage Housewife, to show a picture of the 'Real Me'. Here is a picture of me from Goodwood this year, taken by the super Claire Pursglove. It's fair to say (as most of my readers and friends, both on and offline, already know) that when I am not pretending to be perfectly poised and elegant, I am just a big nerd.

I pull stupid faces, snort when I laugh, swear gratuitously on occasion and generally am not nearly as glamorous as I wish I was! ;)

Back soon darhlings!

My 7 Days of Chic!

Chaps, this went up yesterday and I completely forgot to tell you all! You may remember me mentioning back in July that I was filming an outfit diary for FashionAir, well... here it is! Unfortunately I can't embed it, so you're going to have to watch it over there.

Fleur de Guerre's 7 Days of Chic!

It's rather fun to see what they edited out so it fit in the time, some of my outfits are lacking in explanation... and in the bit about my Betsey Johnson sunnies, they took out my line about how thoroughly they clash with my look - but I don't care! Love them anyway.

By the way, my 'striptease' at the end is kinda deliberately hammy - I have never and could never manage to do something like that in a genuinely sexy and seductive fashion, even if I tried! Shona was giggling away behind the camera, in fact all my cameraladies were. ;)

Do let me know what you think if you watch it.

Tinkety tonk!

A glamorous giveaway

So, it's now the future. When I was a child, I thought by 2010 we'd all have flying cars, but instead I find myself all but living in the past! Still, it's a new year and a new decade, and I noticed yesterday that I now have reached a new century of followers too - over 700 now follow this blog, which absolutely dumbfounds me!

So, to celebrate, and because I'd really like to give something back to all my wonderful supporters, I got together with the fabulous Kiss Me Deadly to present a rather special giveaway!

***Update on 22nd January 2010***

The competition to win a whole set of their beautiful peach Alouette lingerie is now closed. I promised to do the draw today - Friday 22nd January, but I have been absolutely overwhelmed (and pleased as punch!) with the response. So it does mean finding the not inconsiderate time to sort out all the entries and do the draw. Please bear with me ladies and chaps, and the winner will be announced on Monday 25th at the very latest!

Alouette is a classically inspired set, consisting of a lightly padded plunge bra, 6-strap suspender belt and a pair of deep, retro knickers (there's also a cincher which isn't included in the giveaway). Modelled here by the stunning Morgana, you can see how amazing Kiss Me Deadly's lingerie looks on curvy girls, but I promise you it looks equally lovely on modern figures! The fabric itself is a shimmering peach, overlaid with delicate floral lace and finished with saucy sheer panels.

I have to say, I'm adoring the Arabian Nights theme of their current collection's photographs! I own a few pieces of Kiss Me Deadly lingerie already and it's beautifully made. I now have my eye on the Ruby Van Doren set and the amazing Jezebel knickers.

Do check back soon to discover who has been the lucky winner. :)

My loss is your gain

Chapettes of the former colonies, please all take advantage of Amazon.com's mega Remix Vintage Shoes sale immediately!

I am heartbroken that the gits won't ship these shoes to the UK, because the Corazon Sandals I have been dying to get for the summer are on offer for only $80 (from $162):

Size (US) 10 for me please! ;)

They also have the stunning Spectator pumps (although not in navy, which is what I want) for $91 instead of $167:

I realise these prices are not necessarily cheap, but they are certainly a bargain for Remix. For those on this side of the pond, the lovely Clark's Originals shoes I posted about a while ago are also on sale.

Also in black and purple, down to £39 from £59. I am waiting to see if they drop further. Because I is well skint, innit.

Ta-raa!

We get Tarted up

Ooh, it's all got rather exciting in the world of me! I've been waiting for a while to tell you all this, but now I'm allowed to shout it from the roof tops! We've only gone and got the super, fantastic, lovely people at Benefit Cosmetics to sponsor our Tart events! And not only that, but What Katie Did have also come on board! Can I have any more exclamation marks in one paragraph! Yes! ;)

So much has been going on behind the scenes at Tart, we've had more recommendations than you can shake a mascara wand at, including my favourite magazine, BBC Homes and Antiques, Glam.com, and even a rave review from the marvellous India Knight. And we've expanded all the activities on offer, to make the afternoon even more fabulous than ever. Here it is from the horse's mouth.

BENEFIT AT TART
Our favourite cosmetics brand, Benefit, has generously agreed to provide two of its fabulous beauty artists to transform guests into gorgeous goddesses from January onwards. Lisa Potter Dixon, Benefit's beauty guru and events manager, will also be on hand to share her tips on how to create the perfect look for 2010.

HENDRICK'S COCKTAIL MAKING MASTERCLASS
Guests who can’t tell the difference between ‘A Fallen Angel’ and ‘A Flying Dutchman’ will be taught how to unlock the mysteries of alcoholic alchemy by a top mixologist, utilising the potent properties of the world’s most unusual gin.

FLEUR DE GUERRE’S GUIDE TO 40S GLAMOUR
Starting this month, pin-up queen Fleur de Guerre will be launching a series of classes for girls who have always dreamt of becoming 1940s silver screen vixens with expert advice on vintage hair and make-up. This will include demonstrations on victory rolls and how to shape the perfect 40s red lip - with Benefit makeup of course! ;)

WHAT KATIE DID (BUT DIDN’T TELL HER PARENTS…)
Katie Halford, lingerie designer and owner of What Katie Did, will be sharing her ‘stocking secrets’ over the course of the afternoon (how to put them on, how to take them off and how to hold them up when you’ve got them up..). All very important, and essential training for every girl who wants to climb the style ladder.

We were also incredibly privileged to have our photo taken by the downright incredible Lara Jade.

That was pretty much a dream come true for me!

All that's left for me to say is that tickets for the next 6 months are becoming ever-rarer, so if you do want to come along, make sure you get in touch very soon!

UPCOMING DATES
Saturday 23rd January, 13th February, 13th March, 17th April, 15th May…

New Year, Same Old...

Happy 2010 everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous time, whatever you got up to. I'm afraid the New Year has not brought much respite from the workload, in fact, it's even heavier to make up for the drivel that I produced during Christmas. I just was not able to engage my poor, sozzled brain, and therefore have overdue deadlines to deal with. So this blog is going to be lacking in substance for another week or so.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to make Diary of a Vintage Girl more substantive - people do seem to enjoy my outfit posts, but no one is really *learning* anything from me at the moment - I haven't done many V.I. Buys posts, tutorials or anything informative for a while. That will change - I have tons of ideas, I just don't have the time to put them into practice at the moment. Please do bear with me - I promise I will try harder!

But I am not starting as I mean to go on, because all I have to show you are a couple of photos from my NYE party at the Fox. It was an absolutely splendid night, I have to say - might have been because I quaffed an awful lot of bubbly, but I had so much fun and so did my guests. It really was the most wonderful way to see in the new decade - surrounded by devastatingly well-dressed and attractive friends, good music and fabulous acts. Unfortunately, the aforementioned alcohol consumption meant that I hardly took any photographs, and none at all of my beautiful co-hostess.

New Year's Eve 1959. Welcome to Rapture!

There we have it - another uncreative collage from me, but featuring some of my very gorgeous friends, including Hal Iggulden, the chap in the hat at the bottom, of whose Dangerous Book For Boys you may have heard. I'm really quite excited about going to see his new play Threesome later this month - if you're into dark comedy, then do please check it out! I think the chap at the back of the group shot is having some sort of seizure! ;)

As you can see, I didn't even get a decent picture of my dress, but it's the beautiful 40s number I wore on my birthday last year!

Now, please excuse me while I go and make a new hot water bottle and put on an extra cardigan, we're due for heavy snow tonight and it's already freeeezing in my little flat. Stay warm everyone!
